Korea: Steel factories in Korea simultaneously increased scrap buying prices to $14/ton, causing scrap prices reached $371-$399/ton depending on the region. The reason for the price increase is due to scarcity, reduced inventory.
Vietnam: For steel pipes, steel mills in Vietnam are still holding prices, there is no signal of adjustment. There are only 2 factories that adjust prices for the domestic market, but they are opposite: Nam Kim and Sendo, while Nam Kim increased the price to $10/ton for steel pipes, Sendo reduced the price.
For construction steel, Hoa Phat steel factory reduced the price by $10/ton for domestic, construction steel factories in the South did not adjust the price.
EU: ArcelorMittal has implemented a temporary layoff program for its 8,300 Spaniards workforce, citing reduced plant activity due to weak steel demand. The move comes as Europe’s largest steel company has had to shut down blast furnaces in Spain, Germany and Poland due to falling demand.
China: prices of steel and non-ferrous metals remain unchanged. China is on a 10-day holiday starting on October 1. Hot rolled coil price is $557/ton. Cold rolled coil is $621/ton. Iron ore also remained unchanged at $108/ton.
